Residents of Looe have been presented with a certificate of appreciation following a trip to Ukraine taken by local volunteers including members of the Lions Club of Looe. The group delivered an ambulance to Dobroslav and two other vehicles to Odesa, Ukraine. All three vehicles were full of medical aid and clothing supplies. This was graciously received by those in need, many of whom have been made homeless by the war.

Certificate awarded to the municipality and residents of Looe.
Andy French, a member of the Lions Club in Looe attended the 10-day, 2,200-mile trip:
Andy has said: ‘The volunteers heard heartbreaking stories and saw sights that showed the plight of many in Ukraine. They are proud people but so very grateful for the aid; to know that people far away are thinking of them, and they are not forgotten. Of course, none of this would have been possible without the support of local business in Looe and surrounding areas as well as the support and sponsorship of the ambulance and donations of money, clothes and supplies.
If you would like to learn more about the trip Andy has been recently interviewed by the Cornish Times, an article that can be found via: Looe volunteers and Lions Club take ambulance and aid to Ukraine | cornish-times.co.uk

Every Tuesday Knit & Natter meet at our Looe Library and Community Hub. Today was particularly special as local resident Margaret celebrated her 90th birthday.
Looe Town Council would like to wish Margaret a very Happy Birthday and sincerely hope that she had a lovely afternoon.
If you would like to join Knit and Natter you can head to Looe Library and Community Hub every Tuesday 2-4pm!
Last week we welcomed Sharon Payne to the Looe Town Council Team! Sharon will be fulfilling the role of Deputy Clerk working closely with or our Town Clerk Lynda Powell.
A little bit about Sharon:
“I moved to Looe in 2020 from my small country pub in Devon. Some of you may recognize me from the Coop in the centre of town – where I enjoyed nearly 4 years getting to know the local groups and becoming a part of a thriving and caring community.
I love the outdoors and spending time on the coast. When the weather isn’t so good, I like to read, cook, or head to the gym for a game of competitive ping pong and a stint on the rowing machine (helps offset all those lovely pasties!)”
We are very grateful to have Sharon on board and we are excited to see what the future will bring!
Autumn 2024 sees the start of an extensive programme of work to update the technology in and around the Saltash tunnel to keep journeys safe and reliable and reduce the risk of unplanned closures.
National Highways predict the programme is set to commence late Autumn 2024 and will benefit road users for many years to come.

Residents have been asking for an update on North Road, West Looe. Cornwall Councillor Jim Candy (Looe West, Pelynt, Lansallos & Lanteglos) has been in contact with Cornwall Highways who are responsible for this work.
Cllr Jim Candy has provided an update: “The delays to this project have been caused as Cormac are reliant on specialist companies who can design and build this scaffolding from the top down. As soon as the scaffolding is in place the piling will be carried out, and the rest of the repairs can be swiftly carried out. Cormac have teams on standby to carry out the work, however it is necessary to create a safe working environment for all involved. I am chasing these repairs on a regular basis, and Cormac officers have reassured me that they are chasing the scaffolding contractors.”
