Toilet FAQ:

Q: Why am I being charged?

A; Entry fees contribute to costs of cleaning, rubbish disposal, equipment, soap, toilet rolls, power, water & other essential maintenance.

Q: Where does my money go?

A: Public toilets in Looe cost the Town Council in excess of £170,862 to run (2024/2025 figure) around 1/4 of our income. A contribution from users helps to mitigate these costs.

Q: Why can’t I pay cash?

A: Cash on the premises makes break-ins and vandalism more likely. It also incurs an additional cost of collection.

Q: Do I have to pay a card fee?

A: No, we pay for all charges directly to the providers of our entry equipment.

Q:Why are the accessible toilets closed overnight?

A: We have received some Health & Safety concerns regarding the 24/7 opening of the accessible toilets. There is also concern surrounding an increase in vandalism, criminal activity and the use of fake radar keys when facilities are left unmonitored. In turn, we are currently reviewing the opening/closing times at these facilities. While discussions are taking place Looe Town Council will lock these facilities at the public toilet closing times, listed above.

These opening/closing times will be in place until the review is complete. You can find further information on Health and Safety concerns in the Deputy Clerk report at: FC 25-26.010 Accessible toilet Report where an incident report is detailed.

Q: Why don’t Looe Town Council reply on Facebook?

A: Please note that we cannot respond to comments made via our Facebook page as it is not monitored 24/7. In turn, comments are sometimes disabled on information posts as a precautionary measure, this helps to prevent the spread of misinformation and reduce reader confusion.
