Looe Town Council Host Eco Event
/in News /by TeganOn Saturday, March 29th, Looe Town Council hosted an Eco Event at the Millpool Centre, offering a variety of activities centered around sustainability.
The event featured a Book Swap, E-bikes, pre-loved shopping, and seed bomb workshops—all aimed at promoting sustainable practice.

In addition to these hands-on activities, the event highlighted some important sustainable initiatives. Attendees were encouraged to visit the library instead of buying new books, thanks to the support of Looe Library & Community Hub. Looe Shedders also introduced idea of repairing items instead of discarding them and Boundless Trust provided a warming vegan soup to get us through the day!

Several educational talks also took place, covering a range of topics. These included discussions on energy usage from Community Energy Plus and Low Carbon Energy Advice, a conversation about biodiversity and home energy activities with the St Cleer Environment Group, and an insightful presentation from Three Seas on green energy at the Coastguard Flats.
Looe Town Council would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended and contributed to the success of the day. We are truly grateful for the time and energy given to support the event!

Looe Town Council Budget 2025-2026
/in News /by TeganLooe households receive a single Council Tax bill from Cornwall Council. The majority of this payment funds Cornwall Council services such as waste management, highways, housing, and adult and children’s services. Your Council tax also includes an amount for Devon and Cornwall Police and a portion comes to Looe Town Council.
The amount that Looe households pay for Looe Town Council will increase this year by 31p per week for a band D property. This is partially due to an increase in employer contributions to National Insurance which has increased our staffing costs. Like households the Council has also seen electricity costs almost doubled in price.
86% of our income comes from our portion of the Council Tax bill. We generate some income from rents (£12,950) and from charging at two of our toilets. We will also be using some of the funds that we hold in reserve to balance our budget. This year we expect to generate £49,219 from toilet charging but the cost of running five public conveniences is £212,620.
The Looe Town Council portion of your council tax bill pays for Looe Library and Community Hub, events such as the lantern parade and community grants. This year we will also be upgrading the CCTV in the town and continuing our programme of upgrades to our public conveniences.
