Introducing Dive Looe!

A few weeks ago, Looe welcomed a brand-new dive center to Buller Street!

Founded by local resident and special education teacher Tom Inger, Dive Looe offers guided boat and shore dives, and SSI-certified courses for all experience levels — from complete beginners to seasoned divers. They also offer air fills and kit sales. Conveniently located at PL13 1AS, next to beloved local spots Sarah’s Pasty’s & Cakes and Chennai Fusion, the center is the first of its kind for 17 years!

Tom, who has been diving since the age of 16, described the launch of the center as a dream come true. “I’ve been diving since I was young, so this is a dream. As they say — if you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life,”

We spoke to Tom after a Sunday morning dive where participants spotted local marine life, including seals and crawfish. One diver even remarked that the conditions rivalled those in Mexico! Tom is joined in the venture by his partner Mo, also a teacher and frequent diver. Together, they aim to cultivate a thriving community of divers in Looe — not just a business, but a hub for like-minded individuals.

I came here 20 years ago, and the kindness of the Looe community has made it feel like I’m moving here all over again,” Mo shared. “Everyone has been so accommodating — it’s been truly heartwarming.”

Tom, who is also a dedicated volunteer with Fathoms Free, a marine conservation group that removes discarded fishing gear from Cornwall and Devon’s coastal waters praised the outpouring of support from Looe residents, expressing deep gratitude for the community’s involvement. “The kindness we’ve received has left me speechless,” he said. “From hands-on help to simple words of encouragement — every bit has meant the world.”

Dive Looe is now open and welcoming divers of all levels across weekends and school holidays. For course bookings or more information, interested parties are encouraged to contact the center directly via Facebook @DiveLooe or email via: divelooe@icloud.com

You can also head to their website at: www.divelooe.com.

To learn more about marine conservation efforts discussed visit Fathoms Free via their official channels. https://www.facebook.com/fathomsfree.

We wish Tom, Mo, and the Dive Looe team the very best on their adventures!

Notification of Toilet Closure: Guildhall

Please be advised that the Guildhall Toilets will be closed for maintenance on Thursday, 24th April 2025, due to a drainage issue that requires the removal of flooring.

The closure is expected to last for 48 hours, though facilities may reopen sooner if work is completed ahead of schedule.

Please note: Due to the scale of the works, the accessible toilet at this location will also be unavailable during this time. The nearest alternative public toilet facilities, including accessible toilets, are located at the Seafront, which will remain open as usual.

We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding while these essential repairs are carried out.

Kind regards,
Looe Town Council

Looe Community Cupboard- Looe Shedders Makeover!

Do we remember the Looe Community Cupboard?

Look at it now!

Looe Shedders New Shed

The Looe Community Cupboard is alive and well and living in the Allotments, in the plot being developed by the Kernow Health Mental Wellbeing Project. Looe Shedders moved it up there a few months ago but left it sitting on a pallet for several weeks, partly because they had other things to do (finishing the playground tractor for Trenode School) and party because of the poor weather! Once they delivered the tractor, Looe Shedders got going on putting the shed on proper foundations, modifying the roof so they could add guttering, and creating a rainwater collection system! A much better life than sitting in our car park!

In the future, Kernow Health will paint the roof extension.

So, what are Looe Shedders working on now?

Peter Heywood said: When Dave Cottrell saw that Looe Shedders was refurbishing a Wendy House for Trenode School he got in touch and offered us this playhouse in his garden.  We in turn offered it to Looe Primary School who gratefully accepted it.  That was about a year ago!  Without a shed our progress is agonisingly slow and, once again, we were busy building the Trenode tractor.  Now that we’ve delivered the tractor we’ve started on this.  We have dismantled it and stored it “flat packed”.  We plan to pick it up with Geoff’s trailer and take it back to our base to start refurbishing it!
