West Muchlarnick Rainforest Restoration Project

Looe Town Council were delighted to be invited along to one of Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s guided tours at the West Muchlarnick rainforest restoration project, which is part of the nationwide temperate rainforest restoration programme to remove carbon from our atmosphere and assist nature to recover.

The project at West Muchlarnick in Pelynt, near Looe, is proactively working to rejuvenate and restore this 150-acre site, which is one of the UK’s rarest habitats.

The habitat at West Muchlarnick captures large amounts of carbon and like most woodland, helps to alleviate flooding. In the past, the site has avoided agricultural intensification and so remains free from fertilisers and pesticides.

We would like to thank Allison who led the tour for sharing her wealth of knowledge of the local habitat, wildlife and different species of Lichens.
