Join us for a day of creativity as we craft lanterns for the annual lantern parade commencing 28th November 2025! All groups must include an adult, the workshop is suitable for children 8+.

Today, Mayor Stephen Remington and Deputy Mayor Jamie Pearn officially re-opened the Co-op store in East Looe following its much anticipated refurbishment. They were joined by store manager Andrew Doherty to mark the occasion.
Mayor Stephen Remington congratulated the team and acknowledged their hard work and resilience throughout the renovation process:
“It’s a pleasure to be here today to celebrate the re-opening of our much-loved Co-op store. First and foremost, congratulations on the completion of this refurbishment! I know the process presented its challenges at times, but the outcome is a real credit to everyone involved.”
He went on to praise the Co-op team for their continued support of the local community:
“I speak for many when I say how thrilled we are to see this store back and better than ever. The Co-op contributes so much to the town, consistently demonstrating its commitment to Looe through generous community support. Their contributions have had a lasting impact: from sustaining Boundless Trust’s essential community meals, helping fund the town’s defibrillators, to supporting the RNLI, Ellie’s Haven, Polperro Football Club, Looe Development Trust, Sea Scouts, and the New Year’s Eve fireworks.”

Looe Town Council is inviting all residents to take part in a new community survey designed to gather local views on a range of important issues – and help shape the future of the town.
The survey, which is open now and will run throughout the autumn, covers topics such as crime and anti-social behaviour in the town, how residents would like to communicate with the Council, public toilets and priorities for Council action. It’s part of the Council’s commitment to ensuring local voices are heard and considered in decision-making.
Cllr Stephen Remington, Mayor of Looe, said: “This is your chance to tell us what matters most to you. Whether it’s the services we manage now or ideas for the future, we want to hear directly from the people who live and work here. Every response helps us plan better and advocate more strongly for our community.”

The survey takes just a few minutes to complete but will help guide decisions for years to come. The results of the survey will be collected, and the outcomes will be shared with the community as soon as possible.
Healthwatch Cornwall run monthly listening hubs in communities across Cornwall. These hubs are designed to reach people who live in rural or undeserved areas, so we can collect their views and experiences of health and social care services from GP practices, hospitals, pharmacies and care homes in the area. They use the feedback received to provide vital insights and recommendations to NHS and social care leaders and decision makers, shaping better services for all.

Mayor Stephen Remington, together with Councillor Jon Holmes, will soon be representing Looe on a visit to our twinning town of Quiberon in Brittany. A trip at their own expense, this is a wonderful opportunity to strengthen international connections and explore what can be achieved through closer collaboration.
We spoke with Stephen, who shared a little more about the trip and its goals. His message was clear: we want organisations who are interested in the twinning arrangement to get in touch. This might be to share memories, connections, or future ambitions – spread the word & pass the message on. You can read more about the trip and how to get involved below!
“Almost 50 years ago the towns of Looe and Quiberon in Brittany signed a twinning agreement and for many years successful exchanges took place between organisations and families in both towns. Sadly this success faded over time but now the Mayors of Looe and of Quiberon are to meet, with colleagues, to discuss the revival of the “entente cordiale“. If talks go well we would aim for a big relaunch by October 2026, the fiftieth anniversary of the 1976 signing.
Although a modern twinning may be different in many ways, the original intention may have even more relevance in today’s world namely “to promote contacts between our peoples and knowledge of each other’s way of life, to develop educational, cultural and sporting exchanges with special emphasis on our young people.”
To this end I, Stephen Remington, current Mayor of Looe, Cllr Jon Holmes and his wife will be visiting Quiberon from 13th to 15th October this year, at our own expense, to meet with officials and organisations of that town to discuss what can be achieved.
Are you or your organisation interested in exploring the possibility of a forward looking new twinning arrangement? Perhaps you were active with Quiberon before or involved in the Looe Twinning Association? Did you make school visits there or host young people from Quiberon in Looe? Do you still have friends there from those earlier days? Do you already know your matching organisations in Quiberon? Let’s hear your memories!
A high priority for Looe Town Council is better provision for younger people in the town. We hope that a fresh approach to twinning with Quiberon can make a big contribution to that. So the Council wants to help this project get going, collect names of people (of all ages) who would be in any way interested or who have any ideas, large or small, about how a ‘modern twinning’ could work. The Town Council isn’t planning to run the twinning operation for all time but we would like to help kick-start it. We want to help make connections and build contacts between people and organisations of Looe and Quiberon then let those relationships flourish as they may. A ‘Twinning Association’ will be needed here to take on a coordinating role in due course; please let us know if you’d like to be part of that. This will need to be an ‘all-town’ initiative if it is to fly.
So, whatever your level of interest please get in touch with me, with your own and any organisation name and contact details (mobile phone, postal address and email address if possible). We will seek out matching organisations in Quiberon during our coming visit and share contacts with both sides, making the connections for you to follow up. And of course, please tell us if you already have contacts in Quiberon, and who they are. I look forward to hearing from as many people and organisations as possible. Your support will help more local youngsters take part in a ceramic fish workshop, building towards their very first collective exhibition next spring. It’s a chance for young artists to shine, for families to come together, and for the town to celebrate its fishing heritage in a fun and colourful way.

Three local artists – Pete Nance, David Gamblin, and Mark Stacey – all based in South East Cornwall and with long-standing ties to the region, are presenting a collection of paintings and drawings at Lambs Gallery, Quay Street, Lostwithiel.
Their work, inspired largely by the moors and coastal scenery of Cornwall, reflects the natural forms, light, and shifting atmosphere of their surroundings. Many of the paintings were completed in oils on location, or if not entirely finished in the moment, were developed from ‘plein air’ studies begun outdoors. Other works take a more figurative approach, exploring the expressive potential of charcoal drawing.
The exhibition runs from 22nd to 27th September and is open daily from 10am to 4pm. Visitors are warmly encouraged to drop in and enjoy this thoughtful and uplifting reflection on place and landscape through the eyes of three local painters.
To find Lamb’s Gallery on Quay Street, PL22 0BS and free parking nearby, head into Lostwithiel on the A390 which runs between St Austell and Liskeard. At the Kings Arms on the main road turn down Fore Street and follow this one-way street to the junction by the Co-op store. Turn right here onto Quay Street. You will shortly pass Lambs Gallery on your right and approach free parking further along.
Children from West Looe Nursery enjoyed a special visit to Looe Library Community Hub today.
As part of their trip, the group took part in a lively story-time session led by Donna, who shared the story of ‘Little Beaver and the Echo’ . A heartwarming tale about Little Beaver’s quest to find a friend. The children also had the chance to tour the library facilities and even joined in with a sing-along.
The visit was a wonderful reminder that libraries are suitable for all ages, we look forward to welcoming West Looe Nursery back again soon!
