New Heritage Trail Maps Installed Across Looe

Looe will benefit from a fresh look at its rich history with the installation of new heritage trail signs throughout the town. The project, led by Looe Town Council, and funded through the Shared Prosperity Fund sees the replacement of the existing heritage signs, which were installed more than 20 years ago and had become increasingly out of date.

The new heritage trail will feature five newly designed sign boards, highlighting Looe’s unique historical landmarks, stories and cultural heritage. Created by graphic designer Nick Dell’Anno and produced by Parc Signs Ltd, the boards are positioned at key locations around the town, including Hannafore, West Looe, Looe Library and Community Hub, East Looe by the Guildhall and at the Seafront. In addition, a new free printed heritage trail map will be produced, making it easier for residents and visitors alike to explore Looe’s past at their own pace.

A key feature of the new signs and printed maps will be the inclusion of QR codes. When scanned, these will link directly to a dedicated page on the Visit Looe website, where users can access more detailed information about each point of interest on the trail. This digital element allows for richer storytelling and additional historical context and provides the flexibility to update content in the future without the need to replace physical signage.

Looe Town Councillor Stephen Remington, Mayor of Looe said: “It’s great to see the new signs going up around Looe and the Town Council is really grateful to the Looe Old Cornwall Society for their invaluable help during the project. They helped ensure the accuracy and relevance of the information presented, bringing the town’s story up to date for a modern audience.”

This project has been funded by Cornwall Council’s Town Regeneration Investment Programme (TRIP). TRIP is part of the Good Growth Programme, which delivers the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in Cornwall and Isles of Scilly.

The project reflects a wider commitment to enhancing Looe’s town centre, supporting tourism and encouraging people to spend more time exploring the area. By improving wayfinding and interpretation, the new heritage trail aims to strengthen Looe’s appeal as a destination while also offering local residents a renewed connection to their town’s history.

The sign boards have already been installed and the information about the points on the map can be found at www.visitlooe.co.uk/heritage-trail The printed maps are available to pick up from Looe Library and Community Hub from Monday 5th January 2026.
