Looe Shedders Helps Create Seaside Ambiance at Nursing Home.
Looe Shedders recently completed a wall montage at Hillcrest Nursing Center as part of a project to create a seaside ambiance for dementia patients.
A team of carers at the Home led by Wendy Aldridge plan to add props such as deckchairs and palm trees in front of the montage and then, on occasions, play seagull sounds and serve fish and chips and ice cream to help patients recall happy times they spent with their families in their home town of Looe.
“This is one of more than a dozen community projects that we’re undertaking,” says Chris Roy, Looe Shedders’ chairman. “The benefits are two way – we help the community and by working together on such projects our members make new friends, learn new skills and get a lot of satisfaction from helping others.”
