Looe Development Trust update on Wheeled Sports Facility/Skatepark for Looe.

Looe Development Trust is leading a project in partnership with Looe Town Council and The Boundless Trust to provide a wheeled sports facility (WSF) / skatepark in Looe. The following statement provides the latest information on the project & its progress:

 

A site, at the far end of the Millpool car park has been offered by Cornwall council and all 3 organisations have been working hard behind the scenes over the past 2 years to deliver this project. There have been many hurdles to address but real progress towards making this project a reality has been made.

Previously, open days were held in Looe to showcase the design created jointly by Maverick and Looe Youth. This street style circuit remains the preferred design.

Looe Town Council have been negotiating with Cornwall Council who own the site to provide it on an acceptable lease to the town. The agreement for this is now inching towards a positive conclusion. In addition, they have been discussing a user group and how to deal with day-to-day issues with The Boundless Trust.

This week Looe Development Trust submitted an application on behalf of the working group for pre-planning advice to Cornwall council in respect of this site. This is a tangible and important step forward in making the dream of a skatepark a reality for Looe.

Once the pre application advice has been received from the Planning department, the working group will consider the recommendations with a view to then shortly submitting a full application.

As soon as the full application is submitted, Looe Development Trust will host more open sessions to give people the opportunity to view the plans and to encourage their support through positive comments on the Planning portal. The Boundless Trust propose to hold sessions to help support those with limited access to the internet so that their comments can also be included.

This has been a slow and painstaking negotiation between all parties to get the project to this point. LDT are grateful for the support of Looe Town Council, Boundless Trust and Cornwall Council. We realise that this on the surface has taken a very long time to get to this point, but this is a complex project requiring negotiations and undertakings between all parties.

Looe Development Trust are also grateful for the patience and understanding of Looe Youth and all those who want to see a skatepark/WSF in Looe. All parties remain committed to this project and to bringing it to a positive conclusion.
