Looe and Quiberon Celebrate 50 Years of Friendship
Looe proudly welcomed visitors from its twin town of Quiberon, Brittany, over the weekend as the two communities celebrated the 50th anniversary of their twinning partnership.
The celebrations marked an important milestone in the relationship between Looe and Quiberon, with residents and visitors coming together to celebrate the friendship between the two towns and look ahead to the next chapter of the partnership.
The weekend commenced with a Flag Raising Ceremony at the War Memorial, attended by residents, visitors and representatives from both communities. During the ceremony, five flags were raised by young people from Looe Community Academy, symbolising the friendship and connections between the two towns.

Following the ceremony, guests gathered at the Guildhall, where pupils from Looe Primary Academy gave a special performance to mark the occasion.
A varied programme of activities followed throughout the weekend, showcasing the very best of Looe. Visitors enjoyed a guided walking tour of the town, a visit to the RNLI Lifeboat Station, a boat trip around Looe Island, a traditional fish and chip supper and a reception at the Heritage Centre.
The celebrations concluded on Sunday with a commemorative lunch at The Sardine Factory, where a special scroll was signed to mark this significant anniversary and reaffirm the friendship between the two communities.

Mayor of Looe, Councillor Stephen Remington, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome our visitors from Quiberon to Looe and celebrate this important milestone. The weekend provided a wonderful opportunity to recognise the friendship between our two towns and bring our communities together through a programme of memorable events and activities. As we mark 50 years of twinning, we celebrate the connections that have been formed and the strong foundations that exist to build new connections for future generations.”
Mayor of Quiberon, Patrick Le Roux, added: “It was an unforgettable visit filled with wonderful encounters, beautiful ceremonies, and cultural and culinary discoveries. We were impressed and deeply touched by the warm hospitality of the people of Looe and Cornwall.”
“The friendship between Looe and Quiberon is also a friendship between Cornwall and Brittany, and between Great Britain and France. We look forward to welcoming the people of Looe to Quiberon in the near future.”
The weekend provided a fitting opportunity to celebrate 50 years of twinning between Looe and Quiberon and to look ahead to the next chapter of the partnership between the two towns.
