An Evening with Looe and Liskeard Firefighters

On Wednesday Looe Town Council Mayor Stephen Remington and Councillors Chris Harwood, Abbas Matini and George Ingham attended Looe Fire Station for a station tour which clearly demonstrated the facilities and equipment available to the very well trained and enthusiastic team to help them keep the town safe.

Looe Town Council would like to thank Looe Fire Brigade and Liskeard Firefighters, who were able to send some of their fire team staff for an evening to learn about their skills and challenges whilst demonstrating the new fire equipment and the state of the art high tech water tanker.

Councillors were invited to try out the working breathing apparatus and Cllrs Ingham and Harwood agreed to have a go. Cllr Harwood’s long career in the Royal Navy meant he was more than familiar with wearing it but for Cllr Ingham it was a new experience.

The detailed brief of the equipment carried on the main fire engine was very impressive, which demonstrated the huge extent of safety assistance and relief work the team are fully capable of delivering. Beyond extinguishing fires, the engine also carries ‘jaws of life’ cutters for use in road traffic accidents and pumps to relieve flooding.

Whilst Looe Fire Station has a resilient team at the moment, the service is always looking for new recruits to maintain this essential service. If you are interested in a rewarding and fulfilling career as a firefighter or a volunteer firefighter please visit the links below.
