Railway Closures in Cornwall
A reminder that Network Rail’s re-signalling works in Cornwall mean that the Cornish main line will be closed in varying phases from Tuesday 31 October to Sunday 13 November.
Buses will replace trains on affected routes and there is ticket acceptance on a number of local bus routes, with more information available at www.gwr.com/cornwallupgrade.
This closure will affect trains in Cornwall over three phases:
- Tuesday 31 October to Sunday 5 November – Line closed between St Austell and St Erth (including the branch line to Falmouth Docks)
- Monday 6 to Friday 10 November – Line closed between Liskeard and St Erth (including branch lines to Newquay and Falmouth Docks)
- Weekend of 11 and 12 November – Line closed between Plymouth and St Erth (including branch lines to Looe, Newquay and Falmouth Docks)
All the changes are in online journey planners and can be accessed on www.gwr.com/check as well as on social media, at station and on-board announcements, and station posters.
This work will see the replacement of older-style signals and signalling equipment with brand-new, modern technology. Once complete, this will help to improve train service reliability and reduce delays incurred by signalling issues, as well as paving the way for new services like the planned Mid-Cornwall Metro.
