Looe Library goes from strength to strength
In June our borrower numbers increased more than any other Cornwall Library. Our library also issued 17.5% more items in June 2023 than the same month last year (the 4th biggest growth in Cornwall).
Many residents will know that the library in Looe was set to close before management of the service was transferred to Looe Town Council. This means that library employees are employed directly by us but all the books and online resources are owned by Cornwall Council.
We receive regular reports from Cornwall Libraries and it’s not just the stats that tell us how well our team is doing. Cornwall Library’s latest Customer Satisfaction Survey shared comments received about Looe Library including:
- The staff are really helpful and knowledgeable
- The ladies behind the counter are always so helpful and friendly
- Staff an absolute joy and put on lots of fun activities for children
- The staff go out of their way to be welcoming and helpful. Always knowledgeable, giving out lots of help and information
Responses to the Survey were so positive that Kate Kennally, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cornwall Council recently wrote to all their staff about the excellence in library services. Their Survey received more responses than ever this year (50% more than in 2022) and 98% of those responding were satisfied with the service. The CEO recognised that this is testament to the hard work of library staff and partners as well as the way the service has adapted to changing circumstances.
Looe Library still lends books, of course, but we now offer lots of online services too including e-books, e-magazines, e-newspapers and free access to the internet and computer services. At our community hub we also host a variety of events and activities for all ages: from the summer reading challenge to craft days, and regular groups like Storytime, Knit & Natter and Lego Club.
If you’d like to join the library, please call in to see us or sign-up online – everyone is welcome.
