Flooding in Looe
After the flooding this weekend, it is great to see howLooe has rallied and that many of the affected businesses in town are already back up and running.
Town Councillors have visited lots of those affected over the weekend and we would like to particularly thank one of our Cornwall Councillors, Armand Toms, for the practical support he has provided to so many people around Looe.
Residents will be aware that there is always some degree of flooding during the period of highest tides and sometimes this, combined with prevailing weather conditions, leads to higher flood levels in Looe as well as several other Cornish towns. Many of us are unable to insure properties that are within the flood zone but there are steps we can take to help us prepare and we would urge anyone with property near the water to:
- Sign up for flood warnings at gov.uk/sign-up-for-flood-warnings
- Call Floodline on 0345 988 1188 for updates on flooding, to sign up for flood warnings, or to report flooding.
- Visit the Environment Agency website gov.uk/environment-agency which contains information on current river levels and flooding
