Looe TIC Awarded Bronze at Cornwall Tourism Awards 2009

Looe Tourist Information Centre has for the second year running been awarded Bronze status in the Visit Cornwall Tourism Awards, once again coming in behind Bude and Bodmin TICs. Manager Mark Camp, who along with Edythe Coles, accepted the award from TV personality Kirstie Allsop at the ceremony at The Headland Hotel Newquay, said “This is a great reward for what has been a testing year, we were told to expect a very busy season with continuous sunshine and everybody staying in the UK for their holidays. It didn’t quite work out like that but we still had a better season than last year. Looe is a small TIC with limited space and a limited budget; it is a credit to the staff that we have yet again gained this award amongst stiff competition. To get this award you need to keep standards high and we are always looking at ways of improving the service the TIC offers. This year we have added an internal porch to keep the cold out (and the heat in) during the winter months and we have also built our own website”.

Although the centre is still seeing a steady stream of visitors through its doors in mid October, plans are already being made for 2010. For the first time in many years the town council have decided to produce its own Looe Guide. “The internet is a great tool when it comes to promoting destinations, said Mark Camp, but we sometimes forget that there are still people out there who don’t have access to the web or would rather sit down by the fire on a cold winters evening and read about the delights of a summer in Looe. We know how many enquires we get every year for a guide and if we are going to keep Looe as a popular destination then we can not afford to ignore those who have not yet embraced the digital age”

Mark also went on to congratulate the other local winners, Barclay House, who won silver in best restaurant and Treworgey Cottages near Duloe who took silver in the self catering section.

The TIC will be manned and open until the end of half term, after which the doors will be open during the week from 10 till 1, with staff usually available if needed. Anybody wishing to advertise in the Looe Guide, be they accommodation providers, shops or restaurants, please contact Mark Camp on 01503 262072.
