Proposed Looe Town Council Projects – Updated Dec 2011
Re-accreditation of Quality Status
Looe Town Council has made a successful bid for re-accreditation as a Quality Town Council. The town has satisfied a wide range of ten tests which have become more rigorous since it's first achieving the Quality Town status four years ago. Meeting the tests demonstrates that it is a council which is more accountable, visible, representative and provides community leadership. Putting the bid together has involved Town Clerk, Anne Frith and members of the town's Procedures Committee working hard to tight timescales. The council's development of a community engagement strategy has helped it exceed the requirements of some tests, and sees it well placed to get the best for the town out of the Government's localism agenda.
Mayor's Duties:
During the term of office the Mayor, presides at meetings of the Town Council and supports local organisations and businesses by launching, attending and hosting functions on behalf of the Town Council.
The Mayor also undertakes all Civic Ceremonial duties on behalf of the Town, including attendance at Civic Services, Remembrance Day, Festival of the Sea, Lugger Race, etc.
The Mayor will not appear to favour one sector of the community to the detriment of another.
If you would like to invite the Mayor to your event, we would like to make it as easy as possible for you to do so.
All invitations should be sent at the earliest opportunity as the Mayor’s diary fills up quickly. You should send all invitations in writing , giving as much notice as possible, with details about what you would like the Mayor to do and if you would like the chain of Office to be worn, directly to:-
Mrs Anne Frith
Clerk to Looe Town Council
Tel: 01503 262255
e -mail: townclerk@looetowncouncil.gov.uk
Fax: 01503 262255
The Town Clerk will confirm if the Mayor is able to attend. If the Mayor cannot attend then the Deputy Mayor will be asked. Once you engagement has been accepted you will receive written confirmation from the Clerk to the Council.
